ITV’s hit comedy Benidorm could be making a triumphant return nearly eight years after it was unexpectedly scrapped — with exciting talks reportedly underway for an eleventh series.
The fan-favorite sitcom, known for its hilarious antics and sun-soaked drama, followed the wild adventures of British holidaymakers and the eccentric staff of the Solana Resort in Spain. Since its debut in 2007, Benidorm became a household favorite, even winning Best Comedy at the TV Choice Awards just before its cancellation in 2018.
Now, whispers of a revival are gaining momentum, with early discussions taking place behind the scenes. Beloved cast members, including Tim Healy as the unforgettable cross-dressing barman Les, and Sheila Reid as the razor-sharp Madge Harvey, are rumored to be on board for the show’s big return.
Could the sun-soaked chaos of Benidorm be back on our screens soon? Fans are holding out hope.

Get ready for sun, sangria, and scandal—Benidorm might be making its big TV comeback nearly eight years after it was abruptly axed. Fans of the iconic ITV sitcom are buzzing after cast member Sherrie Hewson, who played the no-nonsense hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage, dropped a tantalising hint on a podcast, boldly declaring: “Benidorm is coming back.”
Sources close to the production have revealed that while an official eleventh series hasn’t been greenlit just yet, conversations are “progressively positive.” One insider shared:
“Benidorm was adored by millions when it was suddenly cancelled. Fans will be thrilled to hear ITV wants to bring it back. An 11th series hasn’t been commissioned yet, but there’s major excitement building as early talks begin.”
Originally launching in 2007, Benidorm quickly became a fan favourite, mixing British humour with the chaos of holiday antics at the fictional Solana Resort in Spain. The sitcom boasted an unforgettable cast, including Tim Healy as lovable bartender Les, Sheila Reid as sharp-tongued Madge Harvey, and Sherrie Hewson herself as the ever-dramatic Joyce.
The show’s cancellation in 2018 came as a shock, especially after it had just won Best Comedy at the TV Choice Awards. Viewership for the 10th season had dipped slightly to 4.3 million—down by 400,000 from the previous year—but it still maintained a strong fanbase. ITV claimed the series had “run its course,” but not everyone agreed. In fact, creator Derren Litten famously mocked the decision while accepting the award, saying:
“This is a bit awkward, the show’s just been cancelled.”
He added with signature sarcasm:
“I’ve huge respect for ITV—a show that’s getting five and a half million viewers and still picking up awards, but they’ve cancelled it. That takes balls.”
Despite its abrupt end, Benidorm has enjoyed a second wind thanks to streaming on ITVX, where it’s been discovered by a whole new generation. Derren Litten has even teased the idea of a spin-off series in recent months, fuelling speculation that the sun-soaked series might rise again.
The show’s ensemble cast also featured the likes of Sheridan Smith, Johnny Vegas, and even Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, all of whom brought unforgettable flair to the series. It also played host to some iconic celebrity cameos, including Cilla Black and Joan Collins.
Could the Solana Resort reopen its doors once more? With excitement building and rumours swirling, fans might just be packing their (fictional) bags for Benidorm once again.
